1. Summary

The story is set in Kano, Nigeria, at the onset of August. A powerful storm sweeps through the Sabon Gari area, causing destruction and chaos. Amidst this, an unconscious, half-caste (mixed-race) girl is found abandoned on a trash heap, half-naked and shivering. A wealthy man in a Rolls-Royce spots her, his mind immediately objectifying her beauty and calculating her "worth" for his own selfish gain, before abducting her.
Seventeen years later in Wudil, the narrative shifts to a man named Malam, whose adopted daughter, Akeela, has gone missing on the morning of her planned wedding. Distraught, Malam searches for her near the dangerous Wudil River. He finds Akeela standing on the edge, intending to jump because she refuses to marry a man she does not love. Before she can be saved, she falls into the turbulent waters. Malam’s frantic pleas for help bring a group of farmers and a passing wealthy businessman, Md Adnan, to the scene. Adnan bravely dives into the river to save her, but both are swept away by the raging currents. The story introduces Dr. Abdul-Hakeem Bukar Bello (Akeem), a sophisticated, calm, and wealthy figure whose connection to Adnan and the unfolding tragedy is yet to be fully revealed.

17 Years Later (The Tragedy at Wudil):
Akeela stands by the river, sobbing: "I am so sorry, Baba. I could not obey you... I am a bad girl. I thought I could handle everything, but I failed." As her father, Malam, arrives and screams for her to stop, she falls into the river.
The Rescue Attempt:
Malam begs for help. Adnan, passing by in his luxury car, hears the commotion. Recognizing Malam, he strips off his expensive suit and dives into the river to save Akeela. However, the current is too strong, and he is swept away along with her.
