Auren Kisan Wuta" (The Halala Marriage / Remarriage Contract) by Yar Mutan Kagara.
Part 1:
PAGE 3 & 4: THE WEALTHY BEDCHAMBER
I watched a long procession of luxury cars smoothly driving into a massively built, breathtaking estate. I stood frozen on the spot, watching until the final vehicle cleared the driveway and the gateman securely locked the heavy gates.
Just as I turned around to leave, I spotted a glamorous group of young women—about eight to ten of them. They were beautifully dressed, their faces elegantly transformed with professional makeup. From a single glance, you could tell they were the bride’s close friends, all uniformly dressed in a stunning sky-blue matching ashobi fabric.
They headed directly toward the very same estate I had been dying to enter to see what was happening inside. Moving quickly, I pulled the zipper of my bag, whipped out a pen and my notepad, and practically ran to catch up so I could follow right behind them. We slipped through the gates together.
When they got closer to where I was standing, I suddenly recognized Fadila and her group. In the town of Minna, these girls were notorious; whenever there was a wedding ceremony or a naming ceremony, they were bound to be there. Even if they didn't know a single soul in the hosting house, as long as there was free, high-end catering to enjoy, they would glam up to the nines and show up uninvited. Because of this reputation, they were well-known throughout Minna.
“Oh!” I thought to myself, “Who among them can I actually talk to so I can gather the background story I need?” I looked at Hassana and noticed her head was bobbing to the music. I turned toward Aisha, and she was equally distracted. Finally, I turned to the thickest, most stout girl among them, Shamsiya. I reached out and gently grabbed her hand—which felt remarkably heavy and thick.
Walking side by side with her, I whispered, "Shamsiya, please, is there a wedding ceremony happening in this mansion?"
"Yes, it's a wedding! We came for the celebration too," she replied.
"Ah, I see! So, is the bride a close friend of yours?" I asked.
"Oh, not at all," Shamsiya chuckled. "She just happens to live in the same neighborhood as Aisha, so we all decided to tag along."
"Oh, wow! I get it now."
Right at that moment, we fully entered the main compound. There were several guests seated outside, but Fadila and her squad marched straight into the grand main living room, and I followed them like a shadow. We found the bride and her chief bridesmaid quietly eating food and chatting. We sat down with them, and after a brief, polite exchange of pleasantries, the staff immediately set a lavish spread before us, complete with chilled assorted drinks and cold bottled water. I watched Hassana and the others immediately adjust their sitting postures, ready to feast.
After the food and drinks were thoroughly consumed, the guests who had escorted the bride began to disperse. Fadila and her group left as well, leaving only the bride and me in the room. I watched the bride stand up and walk into her bedroom, only to return shortly after carrying a large traditional calabash container. She took a deep, heavy gulp from it, drinking until it was practically half empty before putting it down. She then heavily sprayed premium perfume all over her body.
The moment she sat back down, she heard the heavy metallic sound of the gateman opening the main gate. The groom had arrived, accompanied by a lively entourage of his groomsmen. Looking closely at the groom, my jaw dropped—it was Alhaji Usman, the famous billionaire gold merchant!
“Goodness gracious!” I murmured to myself. “I knew a mansion of this magnitude could only belong to a governor, a federal lawmaker, or a legendary billionaire tycoon!”
The groomsmen sat down, offered words of marital advice to the newlywed couple, and concluded with heartfelt prayers. They then departed, leaving the bride and groom entirely alone.
The groom shifted closer to his new bride and smiled warmly. "My beautiful bride, you smell absolutely heavenly."
She shyly covered her face. He chuckled, "Oh, wow. So today, you’re suddenly acting all shy around me?"
Giggling, she jumped up, ran into the bedroom, and he quickly followed her inside.
"Jamila," he called out gently once inside the room, "please go perform your ablution and meet me here so we can pray."
"Alright," she replied softly.
She did exactly as he asked, returning to find him standing on the prayer mat. She spread her own mat right behind him, and he led them in a peaceful prayer. Once they completed their prayers, he turned around, gently held her head, and recited blessings over her. He then began testing her knowledge on various aspects of Islamic jurisprudence and religious pillars. She answered every single question flawlessly, which deeply pleased him and made him incredibly proud.
He left the bedroom and went downstairs to the living room to retrieve the packages of grilled chicken, ice cream, and chilled drinks he had brought home. He laid them out, walked into the kitchen to grab a serving tray and cups, and brought everything back up to the bedroom. Removing his heavy traditional flowing robe (Babban Riga), he carved up the grilled chicken into clean, bite-sized pieces. To my absolute surprise, I saw the bride immediately reach out her hand, grab a whole chicken thigh, and begin eating it aggressively.
I stared in shock. “Wait a second... is this really how an elite bride behaves on her first night?”
Alhaji Usman laughed, watching her go to town on the food. "Are you seriously not even going to let me feed you with my own hands?"
Between bites, she replied, "Honestly, I’d much rather feed myself. You know very well that whenever I see chicken, I don't play around!"
"Heh, I know that all too well, considering I used to buy and bring it to your family home literally every single day," he smiled.
"Exactly! You see?" she mumbled, immediately grabbing the chicken breast the moment she finished the thigh.
She then pulled the container of ice cream toward herself, and he simply sat back, completely mesmerized, watching her eat until she had consumed her absolute fill. Finally, she muttered a prayer of gratitude (Alhamdulillah) and slid over to the side of the bed.
"Wow, are you completely full already?" he asked.
"Yes."
"Alright."
Alhaji Usman ate a very small portion himself, washed it down with some water, and stood up. He removed his clothes, tied a towel securely around his waist, and turned to her. "Jamila, go take your bath, brush your teeth, and put on your nightwear so we can sleep."
"Okay."
She went into her private bathroom, showered thoroughly, and brushed her teeth. She then picked out a tight-fitting, revealing nightgown that clung to her body perfectly, highlighting her curves beautifully. She applied aromatic body oils (Humra) and sprayed highly seductive perfumes over herself. Finally, she threw a large hijab over the outfit and walked into the groom’s master bedroom.
Offering her greetings, she stepped inside just as he was climbing onto the grand bed. He opened his arms wide to her, a passionate smile on his face. "Come to me, my Baby J."
She stood frozen by the edge of the bed, staring at him. Seeing that she had no immediate intention of moving forward, he slid off the bed, walked over to her, and gently removed her hijab. He then swept her up in his arms, lifted her completely off the floor, and carried her straight to the bed. As he began to passionately embrace her, he teased, "Baby J, don't tell me I'm suddenly the one you're running away from tonight?"
As he spoke, he began pulling off her nightgown. She resisted weakly, whispering, "Please, I don't want to..."
He smirked passionately, "Well, I certainly want to!"
He reached out and began gently caressing her body, moving his hands over her chest before leaning down to passionately kiss and suck her chest, firmly massaging her with his hands. Jamila began to lose herself in the sheer physical pleasure of his touch, instinctively arching her body closer to him. Amidst the heat of the moment, Alhaji Usman stripped out of his own towel, canopying her body completely beneath his heavy chest.
He quickly recited the traditional prayer before marital intimacy. Hearing the words, Jamila’s eyes widened in sudden panic. “Oh my God! Oh God!”
"What is it again?" he whispered.
"I'm terrified... I'm scared it's going to hurt!"
"Don't worry at all, my love. It won't hurt, and I'll be done very quickly."
With that, he began to enter her. Jamila tensed her entire body, bracing herself for an explosion of agonizing, unbearable pain. But to her absolute astonishment, she felt the exact opposite. She only felt a very slight, mild sting. Before she could even process what was happening, her groom suddenly pulled away, rolled over to her side, and began panting heavily to catch his breath. Within minutes, the heavy, rumbling sound of his loud snoring echoed through the dark room.
Jamila blinked in total bewilderment. “Wait, what on earth just happened? Is this seriously how high society marriages work? You mean he's completely finished already? Just like that?”
As she lay there calculating the baffling experience in her mind, she suddenly heard his sleepy voice break through the dark. "Baby J... see? I told you it wouldn't hurt, right? Come on, let's go take a shower, or are you too weak to stand up?"
She threw a fierce, venomous glare at him in the darkness, though he couldn't see it since the bedroom lights had been completely turned off.
"Do you want me to carry you?" he asked. When she ignored him completely, he simply reached out, scooped her up into his arms despite her twisting and kicking, and carried her straight into the bathroom.
She took her bath with a deeply annoyed, frowning face. The moment she finished and stepped out, he went in to take his own shower. He returned to bed, closed his eyes, and instantly fell right back into a deep sleep, snoring loudly. Jamila, completely awake, drifted deep into a world of intense internal thoughts...
PAGE 5 & 6: THE SILENT FRUSTRATION
Jamila lay awake, her mind wandering deeply into a maze of confusion. “Is this honestly how the marriages of prominent, wealthy elite men are? Is this it?” She couldn't stop comparing her experience to that of her friend, Hadiza Aminu. On Hadiza's wedding night, the poor girl couldn't even stand up out of bed! Her husband had to literally carry her to the bathroom to wash her, and she spent days weeping in agonizing physical pain because her husband had dealt with her so intensely. Her experience was so profound that her husband had to wash the bedsheets that very first night because they were completely stained with blood. The following morning, when her husband called Maryam Yahya and me over, we had to do absolutely every single household chore because Hadiza was completely bedridden, acting incredibly fragile and pampered while her young, virile husband hovered over her, doting on her hand and foot.
“But look at me,” Jamila thought bitterly. Finally, the thief called sleep stole over the frustrated bride, and she drifted off.
At dawn, Alhaji Usman left the house to attend the congregational morning prayers at the mosque. The moment he returned, he climbed right back into bed and fell fast asleep. Jamila, who was sitting on her prayer mat reading the Holy Qur'an, followed his sleeping figure with a cold, piercing gaze before turning back to her recitation. She read continuously until 6:00 AM. After wrapping up her prayers with supplications, she went downstairs and found the domestic staff already busy with the morning chores. She acknowledged their respectful greetings and went into the kitchen to personally prepare breakfast.
By 7:30 AM, she was completely finished. She laid out the entire breakfast spread beautifully on the dining table and returned to her bedroom to take a shower. When she emerged, she dried herself, applied her makeup meticulously, and glammed up to look absolutely stunning. She chose a pristine white traditional Shadda outfit accented with bold red embroidery, which fit her body like a glove. She tied her headscarf in an elegant, structured knot, sprayed a luxurious amount of premium perfume all over herself, and went downstairs. Sitting gracefully on a three-seater couch, she crossed one leg over the other, turned on the television, and began watching a program on Africa TV.
Around 9:00 AM, Alhaji Usman finally came downstairs. The moment his eyes fell on Jamila, he gasped in absolute awe. "Wow! My beautiful bride! Look at this incredible beauty! Goodness, looking like this, you’re going to make it impossible for me to leave the house for work today! If only my meetings weren't absolutely mandatory..."
Jamila offered a sweet, practiced smile and greeted him. He responded warmly as she added, "Your breakfast is ready."
"Oh, thank you so much, my dear wife! You mean you already know how to prepare such a wonderful breakfast spread? Well done, I'm highly impressed."
He wrapped his arms around her waist, and they walked over to the dining area together, chatting and laughing happily throughout the meal. Once they finished eating, Alhaji Usman turned to her. "Alright, Baby J, I need to head out now. I'm visiting one of my major industrial factories to hold a high-level meeting with some European foreign investors regarding my cement manufacturing company. Is there anything you need before I leave?"
"Money!" she replied instantly.
Without hesitation, he pulled out a thick stack of pristine cash totaling two hundred thousand Naira (200,000\text{ NGN}) and handed it to her. She thanked him profusely and escorted him all the way to the front door. She watched his luxury car drive out of the compound, and the moment he was gone, she turned back inside.
Safely back in the living room, she immediately dialed her closest friend, Maryam Yahya. The moment Maryam picked up, she teased, "Hey, my dear friend! How is your body feeling after the big night? I'm actually on my way to your house right now!"
Jamila let out a sharp, irritated hiss (Tsaki). "Ugh, look at you! Who told you to poke your nose into matters that don't concern you, you foolish girl?"
"Oh, come on, Baby J! You're a legally wedded woman now, and I'm right behind you on the marriage path anyway!" Maryam laughed over the phone.
Jamila chuckled, "Trust me, it's not even what you think. Just hurry up and get over here."
"Alright, the bride has spoken! I just finished taking my bath; let me throw on some clothes and I'll be right there."
"Alright, see you soon."
Jamila sat back on the plush living room couch, snacking on a bowl of fresh grapes and apples while rhythmically swinging her leg, deeply enjoying the luxury of her new life. “Baby J, you’ve truly hit the jackpot,” she whispered to herself.
Shortly after, she heard a voice calling out the Islamic greeting at the door. She rushed to open it, recognizing Maryam Yahya’s voice instantly. The moment the door opened, the two friends squealed and locked each other in a tight hug before walking into the living room.
The moment they sat down, Maryam leaned in closely, her eyes sparkling with curiosity. "Don't you dare look at me like that and tell me nothing happened last night!"
"Ugh, balanced on what? Why are you so obsessed with things that are none of your business?" Jamila deflected with a smirk.
Maryam burst into laughter, and Jamila's face suddenly grew serious. "Maryam, truth be told... there is a major problem."
"A problem? What kind of problem?"
Jamila sighed heavily. "Think back to when Hadiza Aminu got married. Remember how we had to practically help her clean her entire house and cook her food because she couldn't even walk properly?"
"Yes, of course I remember!" Maryam nodded. "She was weeping constantly, came down with a severe fever, and looked so pitiful when she tried to move. What about it?"
"Exactly! So why on earth is my experience completely different from hers?"
Maryam stared at her for a second, then burst into a knowing laugh. "Oh, Jamila! You need to understand reality. Hadiza married a vibrant, young man full of hot blood, youth, and roaring physical strength! But your own husband? Aside from his massive, protruding potbelly and heavy corporate fat, what exactly does he bring to the table physically?"
Maryam leaned forward, her tone becoming practical. "Don't forget what you actually wanted out of this, my friend. You wanted immense wealth, and Almighty Allah gave you exactly that! Therefore, you just have to endure and accept whatever comes with it. You can never compare the raw physical drive of a young man to that of an aging householder. The things Hadiza’s husband can do in the bedroom? Your husband can't even attempt a fraction of it without risking a heart attack! My only advice to you is to just swallow it and be patient."
Maryam continued, "After all, you know very well that nowadays, people rarely marry for pure, penniless love anymore. True love without money is a luxury left for a select few, like Hadiza. Yes, she has a marriage filled with intense romance, constant attention, and a husband who satisfies her marital rights perfectly... but look at her! She doesn't even own a common bicycle to her name! You, on the other hand? You’ve completely outshone every single person in your entire family lineage! No woman in your family has ever had her bridal gifts (Lefe) delivered in a convoy of luxury cars except you! My dear friend, what could you possibly complain about missing?"
Jamila’s face softened as she processed the truth. "You're completely right, honestly. Even just this morning before he stepped out, he handed me two hundred thousand Naira cash, claiming it was just pocket change to buy whatever I wanted before he returns tonight."
"My God, are you serious, my friend?!" Maryam gasped. "Wow! So... where is my own share of the national cake?"
Jamila laughed heartily. "This is exactly why I love you—always so impatient! You know very well I could never forget your share."
"Heh! It’s better I speak up early before the blessings pass me by!"
"Fair enough. Let me go grab it for you."
Jamila went into her master bedroom and pulled out fifty thousand Naira cash, handing it directly to Maryam. The moment Maryam's fingers wrapped around the fifty thousand Naira, her face cracked into a massive, unstoppable grin. They continued chatting happily until late afternoon when Maryam finally headed home.
As for Alhaji Usman, he didn't return home until a late 11:00 PM. By that time, Jamila was already drifting off to sleep on the couch when she heard his footsteps. She stood up immediately to welcome him. "Welcome home."
"Thank you, my Baby J," he murmured, gently stroking her cheek. "I know it's incredibly late, right? I swear, I was stuck in endless executive board meetings all day. How is the house?"
In a voice layered with deliberate, seductive affection, she pouted, "Everything is fine, but you left me all alone for so long. I’ve been staying up waiting for you."
"Oh, I'm so sorry, my baby. Look, I'm back now, but truth be told, I am absolutely exhausted. Let me quickly take a shower so I can crash and sleep."
"Wait... sleep? Just sleep?" she asked, her jaw dropping.
"Yes, I swear, I am completely drained," he called out as he headed upstairs to the bathroom.
Jamila stood frozen, looking down at herself. She had put on a stunning, snowy-white silk nightgown that was so sheer it practically left nothing to the imagination. She had covered herself in exquisite perfumes, and now, it was all going to waste!
With a heavy heart full of deep frustration, she turned off the television, walked upstairs, and pushed the bedroom door open. She found him already out of the shower, sprawled flat on his back across the massive bed, his huge potbelly rising and falling as he snored loudly, occasionally twitching in his deep sleep.
“Unbelievable,” Jamila muttered. Overwhelmed by a sudden wave of bitter resentment, she slammed the bedroom door shut, marched right back to her own separate bedroom, and climbed into bed alone...
PAGE 7 & 8: THE TRAGIC EXILE & THE ULTIMATE PLAN
Once back in her own room, Jamila lay flat on her back, her mind racing with dark thoughts. “Goodness, Jamila... am I honestly going to survive a life like this? You enter a marriage thinking you’re finally joining the ranks of elite wives who live glamorous, deeply fulfilled lives, only to find out it’s an absolute illusion!”
“Sure, if it's strictly about money, Alhaji Usman’s house has an infinite supply. But what about my personal needs? Allah blessed me with a naturally high romantic drive and intense passion, yet I carefully guarded my chastity and kept myself pure until my wedding night, hoping to thoroughly enjoy my life. And now, I get hit with the exact opposite reality! Did my pursuit of wealth literally drive me straight into a life of marital starvation?” She tossed and turned in deep emotional turmoil until she finally managed to fall into a fitful sleep.
The next morning, she completely ignored his existence. After taking her bath and applying flawless makeup, she isolated herself in her bedroom. Opening her private mini-fridge, she pulled out a slice of cake and a bottle of juice, eating quietly before grabbing her phone to open WhatsApp. She opened a chat group and began reading a digital novel focused on the supreme cultural and health importance of maintaining one's virginity until marriage. She was deeply engrossed in the book when she heard Alhaji Usman’s heavy footsteps approaching her room, his voice booming down the hallway.
"Baby J! Baby J!"
She heard him clearly but chose to remain completely silent, giving him the cold shoulder. He pushed the door open and walked in, frowning. "Haba, Baby J! You heard me calling you clearly, so why did you give me total silence?"
She scowled deeply. He softened his tone, asking, "What is wrong, my love? Why is your face so tight? What did I do wrong? Look, should I have the driver quickly go out and buy you some gourmet food? Just tell me what you want to eat."
When she continued to ignore him, he chuckled, gently pinching the tip of her nose. Reaching into his pockets, he pulled out a thick stack of three hundred thousand Naira cash (300,000\text{ NGN}) and placed it gently on her lap.
"Baby J, I have to fly out to Lagos right now; my flight leaves at 11:00 AM. But don't worry, I won't be sleeping over there; I'll be back tonight."
"May Allah protect your journey," she muttered coldly.
"Thank you, my baby. So, no escorting me to the door today?"
"No."
He simply smiled, turned around, and walked out.
That was how Jamila spent her entire first week of marriage—piling up enormous amounts of money in her bank account, but completely starved of the physical intimacy and fulfillment she desperately craved.
Fast forward three months into the marriage.
I saw Jamila standing in the center of the living room, her hands clamped firmly on her hips, aggressively shaking her leg. Alhaji Usman sat on the couch, staring up at her in total frustration.
"Goodness, Baby J, what on earth is your problem?" he groaned. "I've been trying to head out for business for hours, and you've blocked my path, throwing tantrums and swelling your face!"
"Oh, of course it's easy for you to say that!" she snapped, her voice rising. "Honestly, I am completely sick and tired of this entire setup! Ever since I moved into this house, the only routine you know is to return home late, climb into bed, and snore like a chainsaw directly in my face! Do you even know how many months we’ve been married now? And in all that time, how many times have you actually come close to me as a husband?!"
She sneered, leaning in. "Exactly four times! And you call me a newlywed bride? Each time, you finish in a flash, roll over to the side, and start gasping for air like you just ran a marathon! You act like you did something incredibly spectacular!"
Alhaji Usman’s face flushed with deep anger, and he stood up abruptly. "How dare you speak to me with such blatant disrespect?! Am I your agemate? Let me tell you something, you ungrateful girl—you are living a life of pure luxury here! It is solely because of my immense love for you that I even managed to force myself to intimacy with you four times in three short months! If you think you can't handle it, then frankly, I don't care anymore!"
"Oh, really? Well, I can't handle it, period! Either you fix this immediately, or... or else!"
"Or else what?!" he bellowed.
"Or else you divorce me right now!"
Driven to a blind, raging fury, Alhaji Usman spat out the fatal words: "Fine! Go back to your father's house, because I divorce you! I divorce you, three times over! Go!"
The moment the words left his mouth, Jamila marched upstairs, dragged out her massive suitcases, and began packing her things furiously. Realizing the gravity of what had just happened, Alhaji Usman’s anger evaporated, and panic set in. "Haba, Baby J! Please, don't do this to me! You know how deeply I love you. I swear to Allah, I cannot live my life without you! Please, have mercy on me."
"Please, mister, get out of my way and leave me alone! You've already divorced me, so there is absolutely nothing left between us!" she snapped, hauling her bags downstairs.
She loaded her luggage into her car, slammed the door, and drove straight out of the estate without looking back. She drove directly to her parents' house. The moment she crossed the threshold, she collapsed on the floor in front of her mother (Inna) and burst into a violent, roaring cry.
Inna gasped in shock. "What on earth is the meaning of this, Jamila? What happened to you? You just burst into my house out of nowhere and start crying like the world is ending!"
While they were in the middle of the confusion, Jamila's father (Mallam) walked into the house, offering his Islamic greetings. "Oh, thank goodness you're here, Mallam!" Inna exclaimed. "Please, ask your daughter what is wrong with her, because she completely refuses to tell me a single thing and is just busy weeping!"
Mallam sat down calmly beside Jamila. "Young lady, look at me. What exactly happened to you? Where is your husband? Has something terrible happened to him?"
Jamila wiped her nose, her voice trembling. "He... he divorced me."
Inna clutched her chest in absolute horror. "Divorce?!" she shrieked. "Oh my God! May Allah have mercy on us!"
PAGE 9 & 10: THE UNTHINKABLE OFFER
Mallam immediately recited prayers, seeking refuge in Almighty Allah. "May Allah make this outcome the very best of options for your destiny," he murmured calmly.
"Amen," Inna wept.
While they were still trying to process the shock, they suddenly heard Alhaji Usman’s voice offering greetings at the front entrance. Mallam responded and granted him permission to enter. The billionaire tycoon walked into the room, looking utterly broken, and immediately fell to his knees in front of Mallam and Inna.
"For the sake of Almighty Allah, my parents, please plead with Baby J to forgive me! I swear to Allah I love her with all my heart, and I cannot live a single day without her in my life. Please, help me beg her to come back home with me! It was a moment of absolute madness, a direct temptation from the devil. Please!"
Jamila glared at him, her voice cold as ice. "Return to where exactly? Your marriage rights over me are completely dead and permanently terminated!"
Mallam, who had been listening quietly, cleared his throat firmly. "Alright, let us hold on a moment. What exactly transpired between the two of you? Neither of you has explained the root cause of this sudden disaster, yet you are both shouting about the aftermath. Alhaji Usman, please tell me, what exactly happened?"
Alhaji Usman lowered his head, his voice filled with genuine sorrow. "Malam, I swear to you, Jamila and I have been living in absolute peace. She cares for me beautifully, and I have never had a single complaint against her character. I honestly don't know what came over me; it was a sudden, demonic slip of the tongue, and before I knew it, I blurted out the words of divorce to her."
Malam nodded slowly. "The power of Almighty Allah is absolute. But tell me, since you are now begging her to stand up and return home with you to reinstate the marriage... how many declarations of divorce did you actually utter against her?"
Alhaji Usman suddenly froze, his head snapping up to look at Jamila in absolute terror as Mallam's question hit him. Cold sweat began to pour profusely from beneath his traditional cap, dripping down his face.
Malam repeated the question, his voice grave. "Alhaji, how many divorces?"
"It... it was three divorces, Malam," Alhaji Usman whispered, utterly crushed.
Malam let out a heavy, tragic sigh. "Asha... asha! This is a complete disaster. This is where a matter becomes profoundly ruined. Alhaji Usman, listen to me very carefully: there is absolutely no valid marriage left between you and Jamila anymore. You are Islamically forbidden from touching her or taking her back as a wife, unless she goes out, gets married to an entirely different man legally, and undergoes a completely separate divorce naturally. Only if Allah decrees that marriage ends can she ever legally return to your household!"
Malam continued firmly, "As of this exact moment, you two are complete strangers. This is precisely why our Holy Prophet warned us to never make rash, permanent decisions in moments of blind anger."
Alhaji Usman sat on the floor, completely shattered, removing his cap to fan his sweaty face. "Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihir raji'un... Oh my God, what have I done to myself?"
Seeing the immense psychological distress the billionaire was in, Inna and Mallam spent hours offering him comforting words and sound counsel. After all, he had treated their daughter like royalty, and seeing him reduced to this state was painful for them too. Eventually, he managed to compose himself and prepared to leave.
Before stepping out, he placed a massive stack of financial support on the floor for the parents. Despite their polite resistance, he insisted, and they thanked him profusely. He then called Jamila out to the entrance hallway, begging her to be patient. "I swear to you, if Allah wills it, I will find a legal solution to this problem," he promised, handing her an incredibly large sum of cash. He promised to call her constantly to check up on her and ensure she lacked absolutely nothing.
With that, he left.
For Jamila, the entire world felt incredibly dark and empty. Even though she was back at her parents' modest home, Alhaji Usman ensured she lived like a queen. Every two days, a delivery truck would arrive at her parents' house, fully loaded with premium food supplies, high-end cosmetics, luxury clothing, and crates of assorted cold drinks and juices. Massive amounts of money were continuously funneled directly into her bank account. But deep down, none of this wealth could solve her true problem.
Fast forward to the final two weeks of her mandatory Islamic waiting period (Iddah).
Jamila’s anxiety, as well as Alhaji Usman’s desperation, had reached an absolute breaking point. They still hadn't found a single way out of the crisis. Every single time they spoke over the phone, Jamila would break down into violent weeping, and Alhaji Usman would have to summon every ounce of his masculinity to keep from crying alongside her, holding back his tears until after he hung up.
One evening, Alhaji Usman was lying flat on his back in his massive, empty mansion, buried deep in intense thought. Suddenly, his eyes lit up, and a wide, triumphant smile broke across his face. "Yes! This is it! This is the ultimate way out!" He jumped out of bed, grabbed his car keys, and walked out of the house, bypassing his professional driver entirely. He drove straight to his regular luxury car-wash spot.
The spot was a highly modern, premium establishment featuring a beautiful outdoor lounge where clients could relax, enjoy the fresh breeze, and sip chilled drinks while their vehicles were being detailed. The moment Alhaji arrived, he requested the manager to call his personal car-washer over. Within minutes, a young, hardworking man walked up to the car, greeting him with profound respect. Alhaji Usman fondly called him Dan Liti.
"Dan Liti, how are you doing today?"
"I am perfectly fine, Alhaji! Are we washing the luxury car today?"
"Yes, Dan Liti. Go ahead and give it a thorough wash. I don't want to take up too much of your time."
"Consider it done, Alhaji! I will put in my absolute best effort."
As Dan Liti meticulously washed the vehicle, Alhaji Usman sat in the lounge, his sharp eyes completely locked onto the young man, formulating a deeply calculated, secret plot in his mind.
Once Dan Liti finished the job, he walked over to the lounge and politely handed the keys back. "Alhaji, here are your keys. I am completely finished."
"Masha Allah! You're done already?"
"Yes, Alhaji, everything is perfectly clean."
Alhaji Usman reached into his pocket, pulled out an incredibly large stack of cash, and handed it to Dan Liti. The young man’s face lit up with immense gratitude, showering Alhaji with endless blessings. Alhaji then pulled out his private business card and handed it to him. "Take this card. I want you to call me tomorrow morning without fail so I can tell you where we will meet. I have an extremely important, private matter I need to discuss with you."
Dan Liti panicked slightly, his smile faltering. "Uh... Alhaji, I hope everything is okay? I haven't made a mistake or damaged anything on your car, right?"
Alhaji laughed reassuringly. "No, I swear to Allah, you haven't done anything wrong, Dan Liti. In fact, I am actually looking to seek a very profound favor from you."
Dan Liti blinked in confusion. "A favor from me? But Alhaji, what kind of help can a poor, ordinary boy like me possibly offer an elite, powerful tycoon like you who has everything?"
"Do not worry about that at all. By the grace of Allah, you are fully capable of doing it. In fact, after looking around, I realized you are the absolute most trustworthy and perfect person for this task. That is why I personally sought you out."
With that understanding, they parted ways, and Dan Liti promised to call the following morning. True to his word, the next day, Dan Liti dialed Alhaji Usman's number, and Alhaji provided the precise location for their private rendezvous.
Dan Liti arrived at the meeting venue, and after they sat down, Alhaji Usman leaned forward, his face dead serious. "Dan Liti, for the sake of Almighty Allah, I am begging a massive favor from you. I know this request might sound completely shocking, and you might feel it is entirely too massive for someone of your young age to get involved in, especially since you've never faced anything like this before. But I promise you, I will pay you absolutely any amount of money you demand. Please, just help me."
Dan Liti looked at him earnestly. "Alhaji, even though I am just a young boy, I deeply understand the value of honor, loyalty, and gratitude. You have been incredibly kind and generous to me over the years. Therefore, if there is a problem, it is my absolute duty to assist you to the best of my abilities, even without any financial reward. Please, tell me plainly, what do you need me to do?"
Alhaji Usman took a deep breath, looked Dan Liti straight in the eyes, and dropped the bombshell:
"I need you to marry my wife!"
Dan Liti’s eyes nearly popped out of his skull in sheer horror. "I should marry your what?!"

[ DESPERATE PLOT ] -> Hiring Dan Liti (Car washer) for a Halala Remarriage Contract- The Trappings of Elite Marriage: Jamila marries the famous billionaire gold tycoon, Alhaji Usman, securing incredible luxury, a lavish mansion in Minna, and endless cash flow. However, on her wedding night, she discovers a devastating truth: her aging husband lacks the physical vitality and youth required to satisfy her natural desires.
- The Contrast of Youth vs. Wealth: Jamila secretly compares her situation to her friend Hadiza, who married a young, penniless, but intensely virile man. Jamila’s close friend, Maryam Yahya, accurately summarizes her reality: she traded romantic fulfillment for a massive bank account and custom luxury car-wash delivery services.
- The Triple Divorce Catalyst: After three months of dynamic emotional starvation—where Alhaji Usman only approaches her four brief times and spends his nights snoring heavily—Jamila confronts him in a bitter, mocking rage. Driven to a blind fury by her insults to his manhood, Alhaji Usman rashly utters a Triple Divorce (Saki Uku).
- The Legal Block: Under Islamic jurisprudence, a triple divorce is absolute and permanent. Alhaji Usman cannot legally remarry Jamila unless she genuinely marries another man, naturally experiences intimacy and a subsequent divorce from him.
The Halala Plot Launched: Driven by mad desperation and unable to live without Jamila, Alhaji Usman hatches an illegal, highly controversial plan. He approaches Dan Liti, a young, humble, and financially struggling car-washer at his regular lounge, offering him a massive, open-ended sum of money to execute a temporary sham marriage contract with Jamila to legally bypass the religious restriction.
Part 3: Literary Analysis & Linguistic Evaluation
Character Dynamics
- Alhaji Usman (The Tycoon): He represents the elite class that believes everything can be bought—including marital compliance. However, his physical limitations create a massive gap in his confidence, making him hyper-vulnerable to insults regarding his manhood. His decision to hire his car-washer for a Halala arrangement showcases a desperate elite ego willing to manipulate religious infrastructure to regain his prize.
- Jamila (The Starved Bride): Jamila is a complex character who isn't a passive victim. She consciously chose money over love, yet she refuses to suffer in silence. Her defiance—grubbing down chicken on her wedding night, throwing venomous glares in the dark, and directly mocking her billionaire husband's sexual performance—shows an aggressive, unyielding personality.
Dan Liti (The Pawn): A humble, respectful youth from the lower working class of Minna. His inclusion highlights the stark class divide; he treats Alhaji Usman as a demigod benefactor, completely unaware that he is about to be deployed as a sexual and legal tool in an elite household's private scandal.
Linguistic Style & Irony
The author, Yar Mutan Kagara, utilizes a highly engaging, immersive narrative voice, often breaking the fourth wall to address the reader directly ("Nace to... Haka akeyi dama?" / "Wai fans..."). This meta-narrative style turns the reader into an active voyeur in the elite bedrooms and modest parlors of Minna, creating an addictive, fast-paced serialized rhythm.
Part 4: Technical Analytics & Plot Structural Evaluation
- Plot Archetype: This text operates on a classic Halala / Contract Marriage trope, heavily localized within contemporary Northern Nigerian urban realities (Minna luxury estates, BUK student networks, luxury car-wash lounges).
- Thematic Weight: The narrative exposes a harsh socio-economic truth: the rising trend of Auren Sha'awa/Kudi (marriages of convenience/wealth) where young women secure financial security but face extreme emotional and physical abandonment.
Structural Integrity: The transition from Chapter 4 to Chapter 6 is perfectly balanced. The author builds the tension systematically—from the bedroom failure to the financial payout, the confrontation, the legal finality of the divorce, and finally, the introduction of the desperate solution involving Dan Liti.
Platform Continuity Update
- Current Chapter Arc: The 3-month marriage has collapsed. The Iddah period is running out.
- Active Cliffhanger: Dan Liti has just been given the shocking proposal to marry his billionaire client's beautiful ex-wife.
