Introduction
THE GOBIR EMPIRE
A Story of Love and Horror
By: Mrs. Sadauki 💫✍️
Dedication: To all Gobirawa worldwide.
An original work of fiction.
O Allah, have mercy on the late King of Gobir; whoever had a hand in his murder, O Allah, disgrace them and expose their secrets. This scourge of kidnapping that plagues the people, O Most Merciful, make it a thing of the past in Nigeria and all neighboring nations.
Chapters 1–2: Tibirin Gobir
Tibirin Gobir is a territory located in the Maradi Region of the Republic of Niger, populated historically by the Gobir ethnic subgroup. Though geographically compact, Tibirin Gobir boasts a massive traditional palace currently ruled by a king named KING GARBA. King Garba seized the throne following the death of his maternal uncle. Even though the late King Salis left behind a legitimate, designated crown prince, Garba had long coveted the throne. Because the palace guards and local populace deeply feared and respected his ruthless reputation, he ascended the throne completely unchallenged.
A long line of young captive women stood waiting, each dressed uniformly in black wrappers and white shirts. They were receiving their daily meager rations of breakfast bread from the royal executioner, a chief palace guard named Dan Tani.
Marwa stood in line, but her mind had drifted thousands of miles away into a deep reverie. She was completely oblivious to the movement around her until the sharp crack of a rawhide whip landed squarely on the crown of her head. Jerked violently back to reality, she let out a piercing shriek that echoed across the stone walls of the courtyard. The guard shot her a look of utter disgust before handing her a piece of fried flour cake—their unchanging, monotonous daily meal.
With trembling hands, she took the bread and walked away, weeping bitterly. Prince Khalid, who had witnessed the entire brutal interaction from a distance, stepped forward quickly to intercept her path.
She stopped dead in her tracks, staring up at him with eyes bloodshot from tears. Before Khalid could utter a word of comfort, the harsh voice of Prince Bilal cut through the air behind them. "Get yourself moving immediately to the slave quarters! Why are you standing there hanging your head in front of this bush donkey?" Bilal sneered, referring mockingly to Khalid.
Marwa hurried to pass by, but Prince Khalid reached out gently and caught her by the wrist. In a soft, calm voice, he said, "Be patient with your destiny. When you return to your quarters, find some warm water and bathe your eye; it is already beginning to swell." As he spoke, his fingertips gently brushed the edge of her eyelid. The intense stinging pain from the whip caused fresh tears to spill over. She nodded her head to signal she would follow his advice, then hurried away.
The two princes exchanged a tense, heavy glare. Prince Khalid smiled subtly and said, "Good morning to you, our esteemed Heir Apparent." Prince Bilal curled his lip in disgust, inwardly infuriated by the fact that Prince Khalid never seemed to lose his composure, no matter how terribly he was insulted.
Without offering a greeting in return, Bilal strode forward with immense arrogance and self-importance. Wherever he passed through the courtyard, slaves cast themselves low, pouring out greetings.
He went directly to the grand royal pavilion. There he found his father, King Garba, sitting majestically in the traditional ruling posture, flanked by fan-bearing palace guards who worked continuously despite the room being cooled by modern air conditioning.
From a brief distance, Bilal admired his father. The King was dressed in a pristine white fabric, draped in a royal burnous cloak, his head wrapped in a traditional turban that did not hide his prominent tribal facial scarifications—the six and seven marks of the Gobir clan, alongside the twin yetali scars carved deeply into his cheeks. Bilal smiled, walked over, and prostrated himself before King Garba, traditional touching his father's feet in reverence.
The King lifted him up and spoke in his characteristically deep, gravelly voice: "May Allah bless you, my boy. Come, sit right here." He pointed to an ornate chair elevated beside him. Exuding absolute authority, Bilal sat down, casting a haughty glance at the palace guards. As if on cue, the guards began shouting his royal titles in unison: "May Allah increase your grandeur, O Prince and King of Tomorrow!"
Meanwhile, the moment Marwa entered the slave quarters, she discovered that her companion Saffa’s illness had taken a drastic turn for the worse. Dropping her ration of bread, she rushed to her side. Her voice trembling with panic, she called Saffa's name repeatedly, but Saffa was completely unresponsive.
Marwa bolted back outside to find help, only to crash directly into Prince Khalid, who had been unable to rest and had followed her to the quarters. She clutched her forehead, which had collided heavily against his chest.
"What is wrong? Where are you running in such a panic?" he asked rapidly.
She burst into frantic tears, crying, "It's Saffa! She is terribly sick!" Seeing her weep so intensely with distress, Khalid placed a hand on his head and muttered, "Ya Salam! And you are just standing here crying? Let me get a vehicle immediately to take her to the hospital." Without waiting for her response, he turned on his heel.
Within moments, a driver from the royal motor pool arrived. With Marwa’s assistance, they managed to load Saffa into the vehicle. Upon arriving at the hospital, medical staff immediately admitted her and hooked her up to an intravenous drip.
Slap! Slap! Slap!
The sound echoed sharply through the royal chambers as King Garba struck Prince Khalid across the face three consecutive times. "You dared use my royal vehicle to transport a worthless, low-born slave girl to a public hospital?" the King roared. "Why was the palace physician not summoned to quietly inspect her here?"
Prince Khalid kept his head bowed low, keeping his silence while his heart burned with intense emotional pain.
King Garba turned his gaze to his eldest son. "Crown Prince, go and execute the appropriate disciplinary punishment upon that slave girl. And as for you, Khalid, follow me." Prince Khalid shook his head in inward despair, glancing over at Prince Bilal, whose face was lit up with absolute, sadistic delight. Left with no choice, Khalid trailed behind the King, while the Crown Prince marched out with a vanguard of heavy guards at his heels.
At the hospital clinic, Saffa and Marwa were in the middle of a quiet conversation, most of which consisted of Marwa praising Prince Khalid's profound kindness. Suddenly, the door burst open, and palace guards stood before them. Without a word of explanation, the lead guard violently grabbed Marwa. The Crown Prince had given strict orders to bring him the fair-skinned slave; since Saffa was dark-skinned, the guards instantly knew Marwa was their target.
Saffa wept and tried to follow them, but the sight of the Crown Prince waiting outside made her retreat in terror. Bilal flashed a cruel smile and commanded his men, "Throw her deep into the subterranean dungeons and subject her to a starvation punishment." The moment he finished speaking, he walked away.
Prince Khalid broke down in tears, collapsing into the lap of Amma, his adoptive mother figure, who sat peacefully counting her prayer beads. She didn't say a word initially. She waited until he had exhausted his tears, gently patting his back as if he were a small child. As his breathing slowed and he began to catch his breath, a thick, suffocating sense of grief settled deep in his throat.
"What impossible condition has the King imposed upon you this time?" Amma inquired gently. She knew well that Prince Khalid never wept unless King Garba had committed some profound injustice against him or stripped away his boundaries.
"Amma..." Khalid paused, swallowing back his bitter humiliation before continuing. "I am being forced to relocate to the Crown Prince’s palace wing to serve as his personal, submissive servant for the next three months."
Amma sharply bit her lower lip, feeling a wave of maternal agony pierce her soul. She began stroking his hair, whispering protective prayers over his head until, by Allah's grace, a deep sleep overtook him.
The Next Day
In accordance with the King's absolute decree, Prince Khalid reported to the Crown Prince's palace wing. From his very first day, he began to study the dark, unhinged nature of Prince Bilal.
With a look of profound disgust, Khalid watched as Bilal mercilessly mistreated a tiny, fragile servant girl who couldn't have been older than thirteen years old. Though it was not sexual abuse, the physical labor and harsh treatment had left the child completely broken and exhausted. Without a shred of shame or fear of God, Bilal strode into the bathroom, and the little girl quickly fled the room, weeping bitterly.
Moments later, Bilal emerged with a towel tied around his waist. He carelessly flicked the excess water from his fingers straight into Prince Khalid's face, snapping Khalid out of his thoughts.
"In the Crown Prince's wing, daydreaming like that will earn you a severe lashing. Come over here and select the royal garments I will wear today," Bilal commanded, crossing his arms and swaying with an effeminate, arrogant posture. Prince Khalid shot him a scathing look, but remembering his restrictions, he held his tongue and stood up.
As Khalid opened the wardrobe drawer, Bilal’s sharp voice rang out again: "Go and wash your hands with soap first."
Unable to tolerate the petty humiliation any longer, Khalid snapped, "What do you mean wash my hands? Do you see some kind of infectious disease on me? I refuse to wash them. If I pull these clothes out for you, don't you dare wear them." He spoke defiantly, keeping his eyes fixed on the wardrobe to select the most magnificent outfit available.
Bilal fell silent, his mind plotting a truly wicked retaliation against Khalid's defiance. He let out a dark chuckle under his breath and began applying his skin lotion.
"Wear this one. It will perfectly complement your skin tone," Prince Khalid stated firmly, pulling out a striking set of silver-colored royal robes that shimmered under the light. Without offering a word of acknowledgment, Bilal continued grooming his hair. Frustrated by the silent treatment, Khalid placed the garments on the bed and turned toward the exit.
"Get back here and dress me," Bilal's voice struck his eardrums. Khalid paused for a long, tense moment before turning back around, looking down at the Prince with utter contempt.
With Prince Khalid’s reluctant assistance, the Crown Prince was soon fully dressed in his royal finery. Without offering a single word of thanks, Bilal swept out of the room, leaving a heavy trail of expensive perfume in his wake.
Prince Khalid went straight to the slave quarters, where he found Saffa sitting alone, her chin resting heavily in her hand in deep distress. He offered an Islamic greeting, but she remained completely silent, staring at him with wide, vacant eyes. He reached out and gently touched her hand, causing her to jump in startle. Wiping away a tear, she greeted him.
Without acknowledging her greeting, Khalid demanded, "Where is Marwa?"
Saffa wiped away another tear and whispered, "They still haven't brought her back from the dungeons." Khalid bit his lower lip fiercely, a violent wave of protective anger washing over him as he turned and stormed out. Saffa watched him walk away, experiencing a strange, confusing knot of jealousy twisting inside her chest.
Khalid headed directly toward the royal court pavilion. There he found Prince Bilal sitting high upon the judgment throne; it was clear that today he was standing in for his father to adjudicate local disputes, a power he exercised frequently.
Prince Khalid took a seat at the edge of the dais, ignoring the formal greetings of the court courtiers. He sat silently, watching as Bilal presided over a marital dispute brought by a local husband and wife.
"I offer you two choices," Bilal decreed down at the husband, smoothing his red-dyed beard. "Either you write your wife a formal letter of divorce right now, or you will send her to this palace daily to perform hard labor for the royal family in exchange for scraps of food."
The husband, a desperate man who looked no older than forty, raised his head to look directly into the Crown Prince's eyes. In doing so, he violated the strict code of the royal court. Instantly, Dan Tani, the chief guard, delivered a brutal blow with his whip across the man's shoulders.
"Lower your gaze, you miserable peasant!" the guard barked. "You lazy excuse of a man who cannot even feed his own wife! How dare your pathetic eyes look directly at his Eminence, the Crown Prince and King of Tomorrow!"
Bilal smirked, clearly thoroughly enjoying the guard's excessive praise. He stood up, gathering the heavy folds of his royal cloak, and ordered, "Take the woman inside immediately so she can begin her labor." Two heavy guards escorted the crying woman, Karime, deep into the recesses of the palace interior. Prince Khalid pursued the Crown Prince out of the courtroom, calling his name repeatedly, but Bilal refused to halt.
Khalid ran ahead, cutting him off and blocking his path. Knighting his brows fiercely, Khalid demanded, "Enough, Bilal! This is completely beneath your dignity as a leader! How can you call yourself the leader of tomorrow when you hand down such rash, un-Islamic judgments? And for the love of God, what did Marwa ever do to you to deserve being locked away like an animal?"
Prince Bilal studied Khalid's face intently. In that sharp gaze, he easily read the deep, consuming love that Khalid harbored for Marwa. Exuding absolute power, Bilal taunted, "Which answer do you want to hear first, Khalid? The first one or the second one?"
"The second one," Prince Khalid answered with iron determination.
Bilal shot him a predatory look. "Are you seriously going to challenge me over a common slave woman?"
Khalid shook his head slightly. "I do not possess the political power to challenge you, Bilal. Because if I did, I wouldn't even allow your eyes to look in her direction, let alone allow your hands to punish her."
Stunned by the bold declaration, the Crown Prince stepped dangerously close to Khalid, placing a heavy, patronizing hand on his shoulder. "Is that so? Well, let me promise you something: I will not only look at her, I will touch every inch of her body whenever I please. And if you don't like it, you can choke on your own rage and die." Finishing his threat, he shoved Khalid aside forcefully and marched toward the cells.
Bilal went directly to the isolation chambers where Marwa was being held. He commanded the cell guards to bring her out and relocate her to a private room.
He stepped inside with absolute royal authority, taking his time to thoroughly inspect her. She was a strikingly fair-skinned, breathtakingly beautiful young woman—the kind of rare, captivating beauty that turns every head. Inwardly, Bilal muttered to himself, "Ah, so it is because of this exceptional beauty that Khalid is so desperately in love with her."
In reality, he stepped closer to her, reaching out his hand to forcefully push back the long hair that covered half her face. With lightning speed, Marwa slapped his hand away, stepping back and glaring at him with fierce, defiant eyes.
Bilal’s eyes widened in sheer disbelief and rage. "What?! You dare glare at me with those wide, insolent eyes?" Before she could even attempt to speak, his hand flew to her throat, squeezing tightly. Marwa began to choke, gasping frantically for air. But the very moment Bilal tightened his grip, a sudden, blinding, excruciating surge of spiritual heat ripped through his brain.
With a cry of pain, Bilal let go of her throat, stumbling backward as if his mind had been struck by a physical blow.
In that exact instant, Prince Khalid rushed into the room. He grabbed Marwa violently, pulling her flush against his chest. His voice shaking with dangerous fury, he looked at Bilal and warned, "I can endure every single form of physical torture you choose to inflict upon me, Bilal. But do not ever make the mistake of touching this woman. She is my literal life, and I will tear this world apart to protect her." Without waiting for a response, he pulled Marwa by the hand and walked out of the pavilion.
They walked in silence until they reached her quarters, where he finally released her hand. "Go inside and take a bath. I will bring you some food shortly, and then I will take you to Amma's wing where you will be safe," he said softly.
Marwa stared into his eyes, a sudden, overwhelming wave of profound love for him washing over her heart. Before she could process the emotion, tears began to stream down her cheeks.
Khalid used the back of his hand to gently wipe away her tears, softly blowing a cool breath across her face to soothe her. She closed her eyes under his touch. "I love you," his voice whispered gently against her ears.
Suddenly, the heavy wooden door behind them slammed shut with a definitive, loud thud!
Startled, Marwa rushed inside. She immediately spotted Saffa standing in the center of the room, desperately wiping away her own tears on a woven mat.
Marwa rushed over and hugged her shoulders. "Instead of celebrating my safe return, why are you shedding tears? Are you not happy to see me alive?"
Saffa quickly masked her expression, forcing a brave face. "These are just tears of absolute joy because you are safe."
"But your face doesn't look happy at all, Saffa," Marwa pressed, studying her companion's eyes to discern the hidden truth.
Saffa swallowed down the bitter, poisonous jealousy she felt toward her companion. She stood up abruptly and said, "Fine! If you want the truth, the intimate way you and Prince Khalid were acting outside completely ruined my happiness. What you two did out there was entirely improper for a slave, and I won't lie to you—it made me incredibly angry."
Marwa let out a deep sigh of relief. "Please forgive me, my sister. I swear I don't even know how it happened, but by God's grace, I will be extremely careful from now on."
Seeing Marwa's genuine humility, Saffa's anger softened. She lowered her voice and said, "Look, I didn't say it to be malicious. I just need you to constantly remember your place: you are a slave girl, and he is a royal prince."
Marwa let out a soft, dreamy smile. "I know... and yet, despite all of that, he truly loves me."
Though the words cut Saffa deeply, she ignored the comment and aggressively began sweeping the room. Seeing this, Marwa picked up a fresh set of clothes and stepped into the bathroom to wash.
Chapters 3–4
Marwa’s heart skipped a beat when she heard his voice echoing inside the room upon her exit. She stared at Prince Khalid, her heart swelling with an intense desire to simply rush forward and throw her arms around him out of pure affection.
Prince Khalid turned his head away in frustration; he had just asked Saffa a question, but she had completely refused to answer him, choosing instead to simply glare at him with intense hostility.
Saffa let out a deep, dramatic sigh and muttered, "My Prince!" Stunned by her sudden, overly familiar tone, Khalid turned around to look at her in confusion.
Marwa emerged fully from the bathroom, dressed in a clean outfit. She immediately lowered her gaze out of modesty upon seeing Prince Khalid standing in the center of their small room, holding a food tray in his hands, while Saffa stood off to the side, watching his every move with a dark, intense stare.
Marwa’s heart began to hammer violently against her ribs. She prayed silently in her mind that Saffa hadn't said anything cruel or insulting to him while she was in the bathroom.
"My princess, I have brought you some food," Prince Khalid said, a warm, genuine smile breaking across his handsome face as he stepped closer to her. "Please make sure you eat until you are completely full. Amma is waiting anxiously for your arrival at her pavilion."
Feeling the literal warmth of his physical presence drawing near, Marwa looked up briefly before casting a panicked glance toward Saffa. The venomous, cold glare that Saffa shot back at her caused Marwa to immediately drop her head, her eyes filling with sudden tears.
Drip!
A single, hot tear slipped from her face and landed squarely on the large nail of Khalid's big foot. The moment the tear touched his skin, it felt to him like a drop of boiling, molten lead. Khalid squeezed his eyes shut in sudden emotional agony, his entire chest shaking as the sound of her quiet, muffled sobbing reached his ears.
He didn't know what force overcame him or what instinct drove his actions; he simply found himself grabbing her hand tightly. Together, they turned and walked right out of the room, leaving Saffa standing alone in a state of absolute, bitter isolation.
They entered Amma’s private palace wing. The immediate, cool rush of the modern air conditioning mixed with the sweet, rich aroma of burning traditional incense struck Marwa's senses, bringing an instant, profound wave of tranquility over her troubled spirit.
Amma, who was sitting on her grand sofa quietly counting the prayer beads that had become an inseparable part of her daily life, stood up with a warm smile illuminating her face. She walked over and placed her hands firmly on Marwa's shoulders.
The very instant her skin made contact with Marwa's, a violent, terrifying spiritual shockwave—*BZZZZT!*—ripped through both of them like a high-voltage electrical current. Despite the agonizing spiritual jolt, Amma stubbornly refused to withdraw her hands from the girl's shoulders.
Marwa forced her heavy eyelids open to look up into Amma's face. In that split second, her entire world spun out of control; her body went completely limp, and she began to fall backward into unconsciousness. Prince Khalid lunged forward with lightning speed, catching her safely before she hit the ground, her limp body collapsing perfectly across his chest...
A thick, cold sweat began to pour profusely from Marwa's forehead. To anyone looking at her in the physical realm, it appeared as though she had simply fallen into a deep, peaceful sleep. But in the hidden realm of her consciousness, she was wide awake, trapped in a terrifying state of spiritual delirium where her mind could grasp nothing but absolute horror.
Prince Khalid wiped the sweat from her brow for the countless time, before turning to his mother with deep panic in his voice. "Amma, look at her eyes! They have completely rolled back into her head—there is no black left, only the white of her eyes!"
Attempting to soothe his raging anxiety, Amma replied calmly, "She is merely in a deep state of sleep, Khalid. Many people sleep with their eyes partially open, exactly like she is doing right now."
Prince Khalid let out a heavy, ragged sigh, the terror of Marwa's sudden collapse still gripping his heart with an iron fist.
Inside the spiritual delirium, a monstrous entity leaned over Marwa's face. The entity peeled back its lips to reveal a horrific grin, displaying a single, massive, deformed tooth protruding from its gums. Suddenly, it extended a long, bifurcated tongue that resembled a venomous serpent. It thrust the tongue deep inside Marwa's ear canal and began secreting its foul, demonic saliva directly into her skull.
Marwa squeezed her eyes shut as an excruciating, burning agony ripped through her ear, boring straight into her brain. She began to scream at the top of her lungs, but no sound escaped her lips; it was entirely clear that she was completely isolated. Prince Khalid stood directly over her physical body, totally oblivious to the demonic assault occurring within her mind, while the palace servants outside went about their day. After what felt like an eternity, the grotesque entity violently snatched its tongue out of her ear, and its physical form vanished into thin air. Marwa let out a violent sneeze in the real world and bolted upright, awake.
"Are you awake?" Prince Khalid asked anxiously, leaning over her.
She simply nodded her head silently. Her neck felt completely stiff and paralyzed, and an excruciating, rhythmic throbbing pain was tearing through one side of her skull.
Amma smiled warmly and said, "Welcome back, my princess."
The moment the words left Amma's mouth, Marwa’s head throbbed violently as her consciousness split into two distinct echoes. Inside her mind, a sinister voice hissed: ```"Stay away from Prince Khalid if you want to live."
Marwa raised her eyes to look at Amma. Though Amma possessed a warm, loving smile on her physical face, Marwa’s altered spiritual vision saw only the terrifying, grotesque visage of a demonic entity staring back at her.
Terrified, Marwa dropped her head, her heart hammering wildly against her ribs.
Prince Khalid turned to his mother. "Amma, I think your future daughter-in-law still hasn't fully recovered from her sudden fainting spell."
"Fainting spell?" Marwa repeated the words silently in her mind, terrified.
She heard Amma reply smoothly, "It was likely the heavy incense I was burning that overwhelmed her senses. You remember a few weeks ago, that exact same incense caused the royal messenger to faint."
Prince Khalid turned to Marwa, who kept her head bowed low. "Amma, you should stop burning that incense completely, lest it prevents my bride from ever visiting this wing again."
Amma let out a sharp, definitive laugh. "What do you mean 'visiting'? She isn't visiting anymore, Khalid. Starting from this very day, this palace wing will be her permanent home."
Hysterical terror gripped Marwa's soul. She raised her head to look at Amma, and in that moment, the old woman shot her a cold, terrifying, warning glare. Left with no choice and fearing for her life, Marwa quickly dropped her head back down toward the floor.

Meanwhile, in the Crown Prince's palace wing, Prince Bilal was consumed by a raging, poisonous fury over the humiliating intervention Prince Khalid had executed against him. Summoning every ounce of his arrogance, he paced around his chambers, plotting a permanent resolution—he needed a definitive plan that would completely shatter Khalid's happiness forever, while ensuring King Garba never discovered the underlying truth of their conflict.
A dark, sadistic smile spread across his face as a perfect, wicked plot manifested in his mind. He strode into the bathroom, took a shower, and changed into casual luxury robes. Stepping back into the bedroom, he picked up his phone and dialed a secure line.
"Bring her to me right now," he commanded coldly before hanging up.
Within minutes, the royal messenger, Jakadiya, entered the chambers. Tailing closely behind her was Maryam—the beautiful wife of the desperate citizen whose marriage Bilal had systematically destroyed in court just hours prior.
"May your life be prolonged, your Eminence. I have brought her to you exactly as you commanded," Jakadiya said, bowing her head excessively like a mad pigeon. "Everything has been executed precisely according to your desires. I trust everything meets your satisfaction?"
Bilal’s eyes slowly traveled up Maryam's body, starting from her feet—which were adorned with intricate, deep red henna patterns—all the way up to her face, which had been enhanced with professional makeup. He nodded his head slowly like a lizard before gesturing sharply with his eyes for Jakadiya to exit the room.
The moment the door clicked shut, Bilal extended his hand toward Maryam, ordering her to approach. Her entire body began to tremble violently with fear, even though Jakadiya had thoroughly briefed her on the transactional nature of her new reality before entering.
With a sudden, violent motion, Bilal snatched her by the waist, dragging her flush against his body. He closed his eyes, inhaling the deep aroma of her perfume—which he knew was the specialized aphrodisiac work of Jakadiya. He began to run his hands over her body, aggressively sending her touch-signals across the most private areas of her form.

### Madarunfa Region
Amadi carefully adjusted the wooden layout of his small passenger canoe (*Kwalokwalo*), waiting for commuters to board. He stood off to the side, his attention completely arrested by a young nomadic Fulani girl (*Bafulatana*) who was frozen at the water's edge, entirely paralyzed by a profound terror of the river.
Amadi adjusted his posture, thoroughly amused by the girl's erratic behavior. She would attempt to step onto the wooden boat, sit down for a split second, and then immediately bolt back onto dry land, her eyes wide with frantic fear. He chuckled to himself internally, thinking, *"So the old stereotypes are true: the bush Fulani truly are simpletons! What on earth is there to be afraid of in a simple, calm body of water?"*
The sharp voices of the girls traveling with her abruptly interrupted Amadi's internal mockery. "Fatimah, for the love of Allah, just get inside and sit down!" her companion, Lauriya, shouted from inside the canoe. "There are only two seats left before the boat is completely full. If other passengers arrive, we are going to leave you stranded right here on the riverbank!" The other passengers joined in, shouting in unison, "Just get in, please!"
Fatimah shrugged her shoulders defiantly and barked back, "I swear by the glory of Allah, I will not step foot in that wooden contraption! There are far too many of us inside; it will simply capsize and drown us all in the deep water!"
Amadi burst into a loud, mocking laugh. "Let me guess: you must be straight out of a remote jungle village, aren't you?"
Fatimah snapped her head around, glaring directly into his eyes. "Actually, I am straight from the subterranean underworld!" she shot back venomously.
Steeling her courage despite her rage, she finally stepped into the canoe and took a seat. Although her sharp insult stung Amadi's pride, he maintained his composure, a cocky smile playing on his lips. "Is that so? Well, wonderful. I shall personally verify that claim." Finishing his statement, he climbed into the boat, grabbed the massive wooden paddle, and plunged it deep into the water to propel them forward.
The canoe began to glide smoothly across the massive, glass-like expanse of the lake. The only sounds echoing through the wilderness were the distant, rhythmic cries of waterbirds and insects, accompanied by a cool, crisp breeze that carried the heavy, fresh scent of deep water.
They reached the exact geographical center of the massive lake when Fatimah suddenly felt an inexplicable, powerful spiritual force calling out to her from beneath the depths. Filled with a sudden, overwhelming dread, she snapped open her eyes—which she had kept tightly closed since the journey began.
In that exact split second, a blinding flash like underwater lightning—*ZAP!*—shot through the currents. Completely out of nowhere, before anyone could process what was happening, an invisible gravitational force grabbed Fatimah, ripping her straight out of her seat and plunging her—*SPLASH!*—deep into the dark, suffocating depths of the lake.
Lauriya and the other passengers erupted into hysterical screams of terror, while Amadi—

## Part 2: Structural & Stylistic Description
This literary text belongs to the contemporary **Littattafan Yaki da Aljanu, Sarakuna da Soyayya** (Hausa Royal Court Intrigue, Supernatural Horror, and Romance) genre. This style blends traditional historical settings with fantastical elements and explicit psychological horror.
### 1. Narrative Pacing & Split Settings
The author employs a fast-paced, multi-perspective narrative that rapidly cuts between distinct subplots to build narrative tension:
* **The Royal Tyranny Axis:** Focuses on King Garba and Prince Bilal, exploring themes of unchecked absolute power, systemic slavery, and sadistic cruelty.
* **The Forbidden Romance Axis:** Focuses on Prince Khalid and Marwa, utilizing classic tropes of class-stratified love (Prince vs. Slave) complicated by supernatural forces.
* **The Rural/Supernatural Axis (Madarunfa):** Introduced at the end of Chapter 2 to expand the world-building, shifting the setting from the claustrophobic royal court to the open, mythologically charged waters of Madarunfa.
### 2. Iconography & Cultural Markers
The text serves as an intentional archive of **Gobirawa cultural identity**:
* **Scarification (*Zanen Sukuwa*):** The explicit detailing of King Garba’s facial markings—the six and seven lines (*Gobarci*) and the cheek carvings (*Yetali*)—acts as an authentic visual anchor to the historical Gobir kingdom.
* **Linguistic Dialect:** The dialogue features heavy regional Northwestern Hausa and Nigerien-Hausa colloquialisms (e.g., *Aradun Allah* used by the Fulani character, *Kwalokwalo* for canoe, and *Tibirin*).
---
## Part 3: Analytical Breakdown
### 1. The Weaponization of Class & Gender Tyrathy
The author presents a brutal critique of traditional feudal exploitation within the fictionalized palace framework:
* **Food as Control:** The female slaves are subjected to physical abuse (*the rawhide whip*) and psychological humiliation over basic survival rations (*fried flour bread*), establishing their complete dehumanization.
* **The Judgement Scene:** Prince Bilal’s handling of the marital dispute exposes a highly corrupt judicial system where the state uses economic precarity to harvest forced female labor (*aikatau*). The executioner's violent response to the husband looking at the Prince highlights the absolute erasure of human rights for lower-class citizens.
### 2. Dual-Sight and Demonic Parasitism
In Chapters 3 and 4, the narrative introduces a highly original concept of **Spiritual Parallax / Dual-Sight**:
* When Amma touches Marwa, a physical high-voltage shock occurs. This functions as a spiritual radar, revealing that Marwa’s consciousness has been altered or marked.
* The scene inside Marwa's delirium is a visceral depiction of parasitic demonic invasion. The serpent-tongue injecting demonic saliva into her ear canal is a metaphor for the forced implantation of dark suggestions.
* Upon waking, Marwa possesses "Dual-Sight"—her physical eyes see Amma’s pleasant smile, but her spiritual sight perceives a monstrous entity (*Dodanniya*), creating an intense layer of psychological horror where the protagonist can no longer trust her physical reality.
### 3. The Hydro-Occult Boundary (The Madarunfa Subplot)
The sudden shift to Madarunfa introduces a classic West African mythological motif: **The Sacred/Haunted Body of Water**.
* Fatimah’s comedic fear of the water is flipped into a subversion of expectations. Her sarcastic remark that she comes from the "subterranean underworld" (*ƙarƙashin ƙasa*) acts as a foreshadowing device.
* The underwater lightning and her sudden, violent abduction into the lake suggest the presence of a *Mami Wata* (water spirit) or localized *Aljanun Ruwa* (water Jinns), signaling that the narrative is expanding from standard palace drama into cosmic, multi-realm fantasy.
